Quick Answer

Seattle is home to the University of Washington (global top 50) and is surrounded by the campuses of Amazon, Microsoft, and Boeing — making it a top city for CS, engineering, and data science students. Tuition at UW ranges from USD 35,000–42,000/year for international students and the city has one of the US's highest concentrations of tech jobs. Living costs are lower than San Francisco with a large, welcoming Indian diaspora.

Study in Seattle: A Complete Guide for Indian Students (2025-26)

Seattle is one of my favourite cities to recommend to students. In over 20 years of helping Indian families plan study abroad, I have seen Seattle go from a hidden gem to one of the top destinations for students who want world-class education AND a real shot at a career in tech, engineering, or healthcare. It sits in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, surrounded by mountains and water, and it is home to the global headquarters of Amazon, Microsoft, Boeing, and Starbucks — which means internships and jobs are very real possibilities while you study.

Let me walk you through everything you need to know.

Why Seattle for Indian Students?

Seattle punches above its weight. It is not as famous as New York or Los Angeles, but that is actually an advantage — the cost of living is lower, the student community is close-knit, and employers actively recruit from Seattle’s universities. The city has one of the highest concentrations of tech companies in the world, making it ideal if you are targeting a career in software, data science, AI, or engineering.

The weather does get rainy (yes, the jokes are true!), but the summers are beautiful, and the city’s diversity means you will find Indian grocery stores, temples, and restaurants without any trouble.
