Cost of Living in Boston

Boston is one of the more expensive US cities. Monthly costs for a student typically run USD 1,800–2,500 (INR 1.5–2.1 lakhs), including rent, food, transport, and health insurance. On-campus housing options at most universities are available and can reduce costs.

F-1 Visa Process

Steps are identical to all US universities: receive I-20 → pay SEVIS fee (USD 350) → book US visa appointment → prepare documents → attend interview. Apply at least 3 months before your program start date.

All F-1 graduates qualify for 12-month OPT. STEM graduates get an additional 24 months, totalling 3 years. Boston’s job market in biotech, technology, finance, and consulting is excellent for placing graduates.

Scholarships

  • MIT and Harvard offer need-based financial aid to international students (rare but available — apply and declare financial need)
